BREAK the rules
By all means break the rules, and break them beautifully, deliberately and well. That is one of the ends for which they exist. - Robert Bringhurst
Art is full of rules, which may sound counter-intuitive. Isn’t art a personal expression? Isn’t it the opposite of structure and institution? Not entirely. Art is still interpreted by the human mind, and that is a thing of structure, affected by institution, guided by rules. Thus, artists learn the best way to direct the eye, or hold a gaze. They study how to communicate emotion. And they experiment with methods that feel most intuitive to them.
But anyone can follow the rules. The best art comes from perfect deviation.
